C.J. (Chuck) Tom worked as an apprentice carpenter before building his first home in 1968. As his company grew, Chuck began to purchase and build new developments, serving not only as the builder but also the architect for hundreds of homes in Westlake and the surrounding suburbs. Chris Milowicki, Chuck's son-in-law, joined the company in 1988 after graduating in the top ten of his class at Marietta College and earning an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. We met recently with founder and President Chuck Tom and Vice-President Chris Milowicki, and listened as they outlined the services offered by C.J. Tom Builders, Inc.;
C.J. Tom Builders, Inc. is a full-service custom home builder and remodeler. We never build the same design twice, but customize each home to meet the owners' individual needs and desires. We build in both developments and on individual lots located primarily in the Westlake, Avon Lake, Avon, Rocky River, and Bay Village areas. Along with new home construction, we also handle remodeling projects ranging from finished basements to new kitchens and bathrooms, decks, room additions, and porches. In our remodeling business we always strive to create seamless additions and finished lower levels that make it difficult for anyone to determine where the old house ends and the new addition begins.
As a small, hands-on company, we only build five to eight homes each year, and endeavor to build customer relationships based on personal attention, meticulous craftsmanship, and the highest standards of integrity and honesty. C.J. Tom Builders, Inc. offers homeowners a complete package with all the staff needed to complete the numerous steps involved in building a home or a custom addition. My father-in-law, Chuck Tom, does all of our design work and skillfully guides our customers through the many decisions necessary to design the home of their dreams. After the blueprints are completed, Chuck and I are actively involved in the day-to-day building process, and our customers never deal with anyone other than myself and Chuck. My mother-in-law Carole handles all financial aspects of the company, including customer account management, payroll distribution, and accounting, in addition to decorating our model homes.
Each home we build is one-of-a-kind, customized to the homeowners' needs. Many people who work at home need large in-home offices or dens, and we receive many request for laundry rooms upstairs, not just on the first floor but the second floor, as well. Dining rooms and living rooms are either shrinking or disappearing altogether as homeowners realize they'd rather have a larger family room or great room rather than a dining room that is only used twice a year. Throughout all of our projects, we've become well-known for our custom trim and detailed woodworking, as well as reliable, responsive customer service.
