Empowering Your Employees & Enhancing Your Bottom Line

While involved in the training video industry, James R. Rector had the pleasure of meeting many very interesting motivational speakers. He decided to invite some of these speakers to Cleveland to do live presentations of their material for local companies and over a three year period hosted better than two dozen business oriented programs at the Cleveland Playhouse, the Ritz Carlton, and the Holiday Inn. After seeing a video by Roosevelt Thomas, one of the nation's foremost consultants for work force diversity, Jim realized that work force diversity was becoming a very hot topic. He first invited Mr. Thomas to speak to 187 local senior executives, and then began to host similar seminars throughout the United States.

As Jim and Mr. Thomas travelled the country, one frequently heard comment was, "How can we get this information to our CEO? How do we get this message into the executive suite?" Jim began to envision a publication which would present examples of companies who were very active in work force diversity, complete with photographs of their senior executives. After four months the first issue of Profiles in Diversity Journal® was ready for publication, and six years later, the magazine continues to be a primary proponent of work force diversity. We visited with Jim recently and listened as he provided an overview of his publication;

Profiles in Diversity Journal® is a bi-monthly publication designed to show companies examples of how other successful businesses have taken positive steps to ensure that each and every employee can be a very, very valuable asset to their organization. We publish profiles of companies such as Ford Motor Company and Chrysler that have structured their operations to enable every staff member to not only feel their contributions will be accepted, but that they will be rewarded for helping to strengthen the company. We highlight their efforts to integrate employee diversity into their overall business plan, and help them identify opportunities available by marketing their products to highly targeted and diversified segments of the population.

For many people, the best way to discover the benefits our magazine offers is for them to hold it in their own hands and experience for themselves how our articles bring to life our subject's passion for diversity in the workplace. Through our interviews we strive to uncover the true emotion and techniques used by these forward thinking companies to establish themselves at the forefront of their industries. In addition to providing real life examples of diversity in action, we also take pride in producing factual presentations that our subject companies can utilize as centerpieces in their recruiting efforts and in their internal and external communications.
